Mastercard present a study on the new forms of paymentsThe 16th november 2011, Mastercard revealed a study on the use of new payments technologies, during the Cards and IDentification Salon.
The study, made by "TechNation" in several European countries (Great Britain, Russia, France, Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Italie and Turkey) on 8000 people aged between 16 and 64 years old , showed that those countries are embracing rapidly the new technologies of payments.
E-commerce : the new mainstream form of commerceAmong those new payments, E-commerce is the most important. With a total of 17,9 billion e-payment transactions last year (a number that is expected to increase in a sustained 19,1% a year, for the years to come), it has become a huge part of the internet revolution and is used more and more every year all over the world.

If card’s payments dominate the E-commerce, the growth of "m-payments" (mobile payments) is growing even faster. In 2010, there were already 4.6 billion m-payments and that is forecast to grow by 50% per year to 2013.
The impact of Mobile phonesThe study also show that, Cell phones are consider by approximately 20% of the European "early adopters" as the most convenient form of payment nowadays. This number gets to 30% in USA, 65% in India and more than 85% in China!
Those "early adopters" who are defined as people who use four or more internet services and own four or more devices that connect to internet also use a lot of banking and finance apps.
On the 8000 people interviewed for the study, 60% of the French, Irish and Spanish said they used at least once a month a Banking or Finance apps. This number go up to more than 75% for the Czech and the Polish, while going down to 35% for the British and Danish.
Internet has clearly changed the way we behave and the reign of a "Culture of immediacy" is occuring. In this new world, new forms of payments have already emerged and will continue to grow until they become the new mainstream of payments around the globe.
